Illuminated St. Cecilia Illustration

Here is an illustration of St. Cecilia for my goddaughter.  I used watercolor, pen and ink, and gold leaf.  The composition and details are inspired by mosaics in St. Cecilia’s church in Rome.  The crown of red roses and her red garment symbolize her martyrdom while the white lilies and white shawl symbolize her purity.

I really love that it captures such a roman flavor in this character. Nice attention to detail and well designed!
